Ian MacDonald of Clachan and Lochgilphead

Postby STG » Thu Feb 07, 2013 10:56 pm

Many of those who study Kintyre history and genealogy will have received generous assistance from Ian MacDonald, recently living in Lochgilphead, and previously resident in Clachan. For the many people outside Kintyre - and outside Scotland - who have benefited from Ian's expertise, I'm copying below the sad news of his death, as announced in the Glasgow Herald.

It must be at least 10 years ago, when we first ventured into Kintyre in search of my husband's forebears, that Ian McDonald was pointed out to us as the man "in the know". We duly turned up on his doorstep one day - he was still living in Clachan then - and we will never forget the kind and patient reception we received as total strangers and the valuable information he kindly made available to us, which set us off on our journey into family research and history. What a kind and knowledgeable man, whom we shall always remember and hold in high regard. His family our in our thoughts at this sad time.

A lovely man, a real gentleman, a wealth of lovely stories and memories of Largieside, I hope they are all written down somewhere.
