Killdaloig House

Postby Tigrib » Mon Jan 21, 2013 5:51 pm

Would someone be able to tell me where the nearest cemetery would be for someone who died there in September 1889? Is it Campbeltown? Name is James Campbell, who was the gardener at Killdaloig House. Anyone knows something about the history of the house and the Campbell family who owned it?
Many thanks in advance.

The estate also has several holiday cottages.

Thank you for that, gizmo.
That age fits exactly. James was married to Elizabeth "Betsy" Campbell, MS Campbell. I don't know when she died, but the couple plus son Colin, aged 20 (coachman) and a grandchild (Elizabeth Cook, aged 3) live at Killdalloig in the Gardener's House in 1881. Would you happen to know whether his wife is buried in Kilkerran also with James, and if so, what her date of death was?

Thanks again for your help and quick answer!

Thank you Shona for this link and your response. I really enjoyed being able to see the wonderful photographs of the house and gardens. It's great to think of our 2xgg uncle James having lived and worked there. We're hoping to tour around Kintyre and North Knapdale this summer on the traces of our forebears, so the idea of a holiday cottage there might just be the answer as a base to explore further. Thanks a lot, again.
