Hello, Yet another request for research assistance to your excellent website.....
I am trying to trace Alexander McMillan who would have been born c. 1770 in Kilcalmonell and Kirberry parish. This date and location are based upon assumptions drawn form the record of the birth of his son Duncan in 1790 at that place. Duncan went on to marry a Mary Brown in 1810. I believe at Clachan.
My queries are:
1. On the Scotland's People website, the parish apparently does not exist at this date. Does anyone know what the parish would have been known as at that time? There are five Alexander McMillans, born in Killean, Campbeltown, Southend and South Knapdale between 1765 and 1775. I am loathe to follow each of them up as I am only guessing at the date range and the locations are not where I think they should be.
2. There is a place name mentioned in Duncan's baptism record that looks something like "Achaglanach". Does this mean anything to anyone? I also have "Orangebay" and "Kilberry" in the marriage record.
3. I attach the said baptism record and marriage record If anyone can decipher anything else, or indeed confirm what I think they say, I would be most grateful. Please be aware that I am not an experienced genealogist and as such you may be free to state anything that to you or others may be blatantly obvious.
Any other help or pointers gratefully received.
Thank you in advance.
Colin.
