I am looking for further information on Dugald, who may have been a crofter. The birth record does not give John Paterson's mother's name, but the death record gives Christian McIntyre. I believe his father was Dugald Paterson, born 28 May 1770 in Aird. They married 15 Feb 1800 in Saddell And Skipness.

Presumably, John was a grandson, but of which child to Dugald and Christian? I am descended from Francis McCallum Paterson and Mary Gordon. Their twins Margaret McEwan Paterson and John Paterson were born 9 Aug 1869.

Do you have any information on who the above said John Paterson married and any children he may have had?

All I have is the name that appears in the 1881 census. I don't even have a birth date.

The closest match to 1853 that I have is John Paterson born 1840 to Dugald. You will find the family info at

That datasets is amazing - did you put it together?

Thanks anyway but found the John Paterson I was looking for born in 1851 in Airds, Glencarradale. I can then trace the family tree back to my GGGGFather who was also John Paterson and born in 1782. The problem I have is there are two John Patersons born in 1782 so any tips on how I can find out which one is the one I am looking for? His marriage certificate in 1812 doesn't detail anything apart from the fact he married an Ann McMillan (Millan).

Hi ! Welcome to Kintyre Forum.

Would ; Barry, Angus, Scotland... have an address link somewhere in the tree ? (brothers sisters)

Found nothing much for Carradale. Oops ! Just noticed that there’s two “r” in Carradale. Will check later !
