Many thanks to all those who turned out today - we really made a difference and most of the Loch's beaches look great. I received several comments that the event had been enjoyable and that volunteers left with a sense of satisfaction and achievement. We had about 30 volunteers and were able to do most of the loch's beaches. Another few volunteers and we could have had it totally free of litter! Next Beach clean for the Loch is September 18th when we will also do the Marine Conservation Society Survey. The annual spring and autumn events get the beaches cleaned which benefits wildlife, tourism and the well being of the local community. The annual beach litter survey from which the Marine Conservation Society produces an annual report on the state of the nations beaches and an analysis of the types and sources of litter has finally influenced Government Policy and there is now an undertaking from both SG and Westminster that an Action Plan for beach and marine litter will be produced by March 2011.
We are winning the battle and I am grateful for the support over the last few years.
