Concert on March 19th in White Hart Hotel

The Kintyre Music & Arts Tuition Group, Kintyre Fiddlers, The Kintyre Cultural Forum and The Mull of Kintyre Music Festival have announced the line-up for their first joint concert of this year on March 19th in the White Hart Hotel. Headlining the concert are fiddle and vocal duo Gillian Frame and Fiona MacAskill who will be joined by Canterach who include a strong local presence in their line-up. Also confirmed to appear are Frank Rochford on fiddle, Sam Hales on guitar with Kay Johnston as MC for the night.

Gillian Frame who hails from Arran is well known in Campbeltown having played at the first ever Kintyre Music Tuition Group concert in 2003 with her band Back of the Moon and at the Mull of Kintyre Music festival in 2005. Gillian, accompanied by Lorne MacDougall and Rebecca Brown also opened last year’s Music Festival Ceilidh Night. Fiona MacAskill who will tutor the intermediate and experienced fiddle workshops in the afternoon currently plays with The Catriona Watt Band and with the new five piece Scottish/Norwegian collaboration Samling.

Gillian and Fiona are joined on stage by Canterach who feature four members with strong local ties to Campbeltown and Kintyre. The line up for this concert will include Ross Kennedy on guitar & vocals, Lorne MacDougall on highland pipes and whistle, Rebecca Brown on fiddle and Jamie Kennedy on percussion. Canterach have played at the Mull of Kintyre Music Festival supporting Eddi Reader in 2006, headlined the Dalriada Connections Concert in 2007 and played at the Music of Kintyre Night concert in the Kirk Street Hall last year.

The concert will end a day of fiddle, guitar and percussion workshops which will be held in the White Hart Hotel, these will be tutored by many of the night time artists with Rebecca Brown tutoring the beginners fiddle workshop at 4.15pm, Fiona MacAskill tutoring the intermediate and experienced fiddle workshops from 5.15pm, Sam Hales tutoring guitar from 4.15pm and Jamie Kennedy tutoring percussion at 5.15pm.

Tickets which cost £5 are available from A.P. Taylors Main Street and Argyll Voluntary Action Centre, Longrow, Campbeltown with all the money raised going towards the development of musicians in Kintyre. For more information email kmatg@hotmail.co.uk or phone 01586 552034.
