The Kintyre Music and Arts Tuition Group, Kintyre Fiddlers and Kintyre Cultural Forum have announced that tickets are now on sale for the “Music of Kintyre Night” concert on June 12th in the Kirk Street Hall, Campbeltown. The finalised line-up is Kintyre Schools Pipe Band, Campbeltown Grammar School Choir, Campbeltown Brass, Ross Kennedy, Lorne MacDougall and Rebecca Brown, Alex & Archie McAllister, The Wild Sarachs, Ross McInnes, Kintyre Fiddlers and Kay Johnston.
The organisers of this new event aim to get a representation of musicians from the Kintyre area to perform with the long term intention to hold these concerts every six months if successful. All funds raised from the concert will go back into the development of music tuition in the area. The first concert in January with Cape Breton legend Jerry Holland proved to be a great success and this was followed in March with a concert featuring Bruce MacGregor from Blazin` Fiddles.
Rebecca Brown from Islay will tutor two fiddle workshops in the afternoon starting at 4.15pm with a beginners class with the second workshop aimed at the intermediate/experienced students starting at 5.15pm before playing at the evening concert. These free workshops are the 6th in a series of 12 that the three organising groups have committed to putting on in Campbeltown and the intention is to also put on workshops for different instruments depending on demand.
Tickets costing £5 are on sale from A.P. Taylors, Main St, & the Volunteer Centre Longrow Campbeltown.
