The South Kintyre Development Trust (SKDT) received the following communication from Burcote Wind on the 18th January. We would encourage anyone interested in the development to attend the open day to find out more or get in touch with Burcote Wind directly. Details are below:
You may already be aware of recently announced proposals from Burcote Wind for Creggan wind farm, located on a site north-east of Glenbarr in West Kintyre.
Comprising 26 turbines and with a total installed capacity of 78 megawatts, the Creggan wind farm proposal has the potential to generate sufficient electricity to power 58,000 homes and would offset almost 118,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.
As currently proposed, the project would also be accompanied by a community benefit fund worth £234,000 per year or £5.9 million over its 25-year lifetime, with each megawatt of installed capacity providing £3000 per year of guaranteed income during that period.
We’re still a long way from submitting a planning application. But we’re starting our engagement with the local community now so that we can take on board the views of local people and refine our proposals where possible. We are holding a community engagement event in February where you’ll have the chance to view an exhibition of our proposals, chat to the project team and give us your comments and feedback.
The event will take place at the following date, time and venue and we would welcome your attendance:
Thursday, 23rd February, 2012 – Glenbarr Church Hall, Glenbarr, West Kintyre, 14:00-19:30
