Cruising

There are some excellent cruising deals around just now, partly due to over capacity in the market.

Has anyone ever cruised?
If so, with which Cruise Line?
What was your experience?

Hi TYM,
Mrs D and I went on a cruise in June around the Med for our 30th anniversary, we sailed from Majorca and called at or near, Monte Carlo,Florence,Rome,Sardinia and Minorca With Thomson. It was our first cruise and although the ship wasnt as palatial as some of the more modern ones we enjoyed our holiday. The food was brilliant and the staff really friendly and helpful. The bar prices were the same as pub prices at home and all tips were included in the initial cost, some companies add them to every drink etc. We will go on another cruise and would recommend it to anyone, if you need to know more feel free to ask. :)

Did you do organised trips in the stop off cities or did you do your own thing Chris? It seems like a really good way to see lots of different places in one holiday! I really fancy giving it a go - but then show me a holiday I don't fancy :D

We did a combination of both Ags, we are not seasoned travellers so did a few of the excursions, but it would be expensive to do them on every stop. It was only a few euros to catch the train to Monte Carlo so we did that, or it would have been similar to go to Nice. We took a coach only excursion to Rome as the tours seemed expensive, then we caught one of the sight seeing open buses around that you pay once then get on and off as you please. There are usually local trains or taxis close to where you dock.
We werent sure whether we would enjoy it or not, but it was a great experience, the ship would dock early morning and we would have the day ashore, back early evening for dinner and the show or disco and wake up next day somewhere new. :)
There was one formal dinner and if you dont want to eat in the restaurant , there was an excellent buffet, food was available 24 hours a day, so its not a holiday for dieting!
I would say if you fancy it , go for it, we will be doing another when funds allow!
