Chris

That is brilliant! I have just heard from another cousin of mine Janette. I guess she has been named after one of the grannies. This is amazing. Blackstock is such an odd name, there was no wonder we are all related. But you never mentioned anything about my father, Samuel, who was Peter's brother. Any other info on him? Did they have any other siblings? I only really remember my uncle Peter.

Thanks again!

Annie

I'm planning to travel to Kintyre in September and would like to catch up with some of you mad people on the forum - no doubt the pubs are a good place to meet most of you. Which are the best ones?

Looking forward to putting faces to names....

Chris

Ye can probably find my brother, Jim, in the Gluepot, if he is not at the fishing!!!!!!!

Glad to see you are posting again and feeling better. You need to rest up before visiting your wild Blackstock cousins, ye know. We are a wild bunch!

Thanks Cuz - I'm getting stronger all the time. (thank goodness) What about you?

I'll make sure I get down to the Gluepot (I'll refrain from making all the obvious jokes about that!) - you'd better tell your brother I'm on my way - I'll be there in mid September. And I'll be around for a couple of weeks so even if he is out fishing, I'll catch up with him at some point.

Joe Mac has given me good info about where some of the family are buried so I'll do a tour of the cemeteries - I know that doesn't sound like it's worth travelling half way around the world for, but let's just say that meeting a few moving, breathing members of the family will be a welcome change!!! ... whether I'll be able to understand that accent is a completely different challenge!

I hope to do a good bit of walking around the area (just day walks mind you - I'm not a bloody goat) - have you any good spots to recommend?

Talk to you soon, Annie

C

Hey Annie - I'll be catching the plane in Brisbane tomorrow morning and should arrive in Campbelltown on Thursday afternoon. Can you believe it? I can't ! I'll be looking out for you.

Looking forward to meeting some of the mad mob on this forum as well at one of the local pubs in town. You'll know me soon enough - just listen for the Aussie accent!

See you all in Campbelltown this week!

Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris

I think Annie is currently in Campbeltown and may well be when you arrive.

I was back home two weeks ago and I met up with her .
Try the Corner house coffee bar , somebody in there may well kmow where she is

Have a safe journey , I used to travel to Sydney 2-3 times per year from Campbeltown so I know how great a journey you are about to embark on is.
All the best

fROSTY

Aye, still here!

Corner House is owned and operated by my cousin, David Dewar and his partner Audrey. I am usually in there at least once a day, or twice or sometimes three or four times!!!!!

However, I am leaving to visit Turkey for a week on the 25th, but will return to the town shortly after!

Looking forward to seeing you then!

Hi, I am Rodney Guise living in Queensland and was brought up in Southland New Zealand. My great grand mother was Hannah Blackstock who married to John Thomas Guise. Hannah was the daughter of William Blackstock and Margaret Cockburn. Williams parents were Duncan and Margaret McCallum. Duncans parents were Thomas Blackstock and Henerita Ferguson. From what I can gather, your Peter was a brother of my Duncan who was my 3rd grear grandfather, making Peter my 3rd great uncle. Small world. Would be great to hear from you if you still research family history. My email is guise@netspace.net.au
Regards,
Rodney Guise.

Hi Rodney:

I have a book about the Blackstocks of "Burnside" which was written by Ian Guise! Is that by any chance a relation to you? We are all in the book. My father was Samuel, he had several siblings, William (1921), Duncan (1923), Jean (1927), and Margaret aka Meggie (1931). Sadly, all have passed except for Meggie. All of them lived within the vicinity of Bellochantuy give or take a few miles.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Annie

Hi Annie,
Great to hear from you.
Ian Guise was a cousin of my fathers, unfortunatley they have both passed on and it is up to us now to do the research. I have spent some time now researching the Guise side of the family. I am trying to go back further than Ian went but it is hard just finding the records as a lot of the early English ones have been lost or destroyed, but now and again some fresh data comes available. Ian got back to 1702 no problems, but now it is getting harder. I have made the early 1600's. We also found it hard to get past Thomas Blackstock and Henerita Ferguson. Seems they are the founders of all our families. My link is through their son Duncan whose son William came to the South Island of New Zealand. Funny thing is, when Ian Guise wrote his book, it was thought these were the only Blackstocks residing in New Zealand. How wrong they were, when all of a sudden Blackstocks were cropping up all over the country. Just recently a email friend Jen, found Henrietas parents, which we think may be correct. They are Duncan Ferguson and Mary Campbell married 2nd February 1738, Glenaray, Argyll. Look forward to any information you or others may have on this family.
Regards,
Rodney.

I am descended from Edward Blackstock born 1806, youngest child of Thomas and Henrietta. He emigrated to Ontario, Canada around 1832. His half-brother William, son of Marion MacQuilkan and Thomas Blackstock also emigrated to Ontario, Canada. William never married. My line goes 3x great grandfather Thomas, 2x great Edward, great-grandfather John Blackstock, grandfather John Blackstock, and father William Blackstock.
