John McLean Results

Machrihanish Golf Club held the John McLean event over Saturday and Sunday last weekend in very difficult conditions which saw only 15 out of 61 competitors manage to return scores on both days.

Current Club Champion, George McMillan did not let the conditions deter him on day one and returned a 69-0=69 which was also the lowest gross of the day. Stephen Kelly and R McMurchy both finished with a net 71 just behind George.

Conditions on Sunday made all aspects of the game very difficult including putting on the greens due to the wind strength, however in the handicap section it was W Deans who took the top spot on day two with a (93-18=75), closely followed by I A McKinnon with (82-6=76).

The combined scratch prize was won by George McMillan who also returned the lowest gross score of 80 on the Sunday to give a combined total of 69+80=149. I A McKinnon grossed a steady 78 and 82 to take the runners up spot.

The top junior was G McKillop with a cumulative gross of 184 made up of a 91 and a 93.

Postby Kintyre Forum News » Tue Sep 14, 2010 7:15 pm

Machrihanish Golf Club 2010 Pro-Am

Saturday 11th September saw Machrihanish Golf Club host the 2010 Pro-Am. The event continues to be supported through main sponsorship from Highland Fuels and attracted entries from 38 teams.
Conditions were windy over the course of the day, however this reduced for the afternoon players and the later scores returned seemed to have benefited from an afternoon tee off time in the draw.

Crow Wood Oldies, with their own club professional, Ian Graham, along with A Graham, K Eddy, and D McLaughlin took first place with a net score of 56, and also picked up the winners prize of whisky donated by Springbank Distillery.

The next three places were decided by the better inward half, with all returning a net score of 58, however by virtue of this D S Contracts led by professional, Paul Jamieson from Dunblane New, took second spot. Machrihanish Golf Club donated the prizes for second place which went to team members, D Semple, J Laird, and G McCulloch.

Charles Reppke’s team secured third place and another whisky prize donated by Ken Campbell Pro Shop. Charles played alongside, J Shaftoe, K Janowicz and the Kingsbarns professional, David Blackadder.

K Martin, R Anderson and J Kidd from Machrihanish Dunes followed in fourth place, assisted by the Carnoustie professional, Lindsay Mann. Ironically Machrihanish Dunes won the fourth place prize that they donated of a fourball at the Dunes. The team kindly donated the prize as an addition to a healthy selection of raffle prizes to be drawn at the prize giving.

Fifth place went to last years winning team, McEachran & Robertson who were represented by Michael Kelly, Callum Fraser, Fergus Walker, and Buchanan Castle professional, Jason McCreadie. The holders finished with a net 59 to complete the final order of merit and the fifth place prize donated by Campbeltown Creamery.

The best professional score of the day was achieved by three players all returning a 67. They were Lyndsay Mann of Carnoustie, Craig Matheson of Falkirk Tryst, and Alasdair Webster of Edzell.

The Machrihanish Golf Club would like to thank all participants for taking part, along with a huge thanks to the many local businesses and individuals who donated individual hole prizes and raffle prizes which go towards making the Pro-Am such a success. A special mention must also go to the Pro-Am Convenor, David Rankin, who has made an exceptional contribution to the continued success of the Pro-Am from the planning of the event through to the presentation of the course on the day.

Play continues this weekend with the Commercial Inn Better Ball Open taking place at the the Machrihanish Golf Club during Saturday.
