Oban Half Maraton

Postby 4th gen Suthen' » Mon Oct 02, 2006 6:46 pm

Oban certainly was wearing its early October best yesterday. Cloudy and calm with a little drizzle early in the day but by race start time it was sunny and warm.

At the last minute 4 Kintyre men joined up to enter for the team prize .
Hendrie Barbour, fresh from winning the Mid Argyll Triathlon veteran section the week before, along with his cousin John Galbraith and brothers in law Charlie Dott and Kenny Campbell made up Team Campbeltown Strollers!

All 4 ran well with Hendrie racing round in 1h 22m and Kenny in 1 27 20, a great time for an Oban debut. Galbraith and Dott were not far behind.

and they were happy to pose at the finish line, hopeful that they were in with a shout for 1st place

but it soon became apparant that would not be the case as the mighty Perth Road Runners had the winner, + 2 more of the top ten, in their team. The Strollers had to settle for 2nd place.

But Hendrie flew the Campbeltown flag by taking 3rd place in the verterans section.

It was a fine, well ran and very enjoyable event.........but not a patch on the Mull of Kintyre Half marathon and 10k which will take place again on 27th May 2007.......leaflets and flyers were distributed yesterday and most people seemed very keen to head South next May.
