Kintyre Summer Football League Meeting

Postby Sport » Tue May 17, 2005 9:55 pm

There will be a meeting to discuss this on Monday 23rd May 2005 at 7.30pm in the Davaar Bar, North Shore Street, Campbeltown.

Anyone can come along but we certainly require one representative from each team wishing to take part. There will also be a note in the Courier about the meeting this Friday but please spread the word.

Certainly, for this year, the main aim will be to set-up the league etc. We will probably look at each team playing each other once and perhaps a cup too. The league will be open to the games being played any day and evening of the week too. Hopefully we will get the league up and running for the start of June and run into early August.

If anyone has any ideas please post here too.

Postby rick_ford55 » Wed May 18, 2005 4:37 pm

Been following this thread on the site and have a couple of people who would be interested in having a team. Possibilty of getting some funding maybe to help pay for pitches and changing rooms that i can look into....hopefully send someone on Monday night. Will outcome of meeting be posted on site? :P

Ricky,

Would this be for a club or for the league itself? If the league this would be great as between pitches, changing rooms and referees (and there will be other costs) we are looking at perhaps £70 a game.

It would be really good to get this up and running! ;-)

Teams interested so far are:-

Meadows
Milanos
Boys Under 19s
Beef Utd
Co-op (so we have heard)
Auld flas (still to get a name)

Any other teams?

Yours in sport

Aye went really good with lots of interest. Think we are looking at 8 teams which would be fine. Also looking at the possible return of Southend which would be excellent!

Another meeting has been arranged for Sunday night at 7pm where teams have to hand in a registration form for their team and a pool of players who intend to play (this does not have to be the players who play just to show you can produce a team).

Meeting is Sunday 29th May 2005 in Argyll Hotel, Main Street at 7pm

PS - Ranald - you've to make up the form!

Now that things are beginning to move forward on this, we're looking at the specifics of how the league would operate.

Things like what day of the week would suit teams, how to finance the intial booking of pitches etc. That kind of thing.

Does anyone have any (serious) suggestions?

We're thinking about allocating two days of the week for fixtures, playing two games at a time, ie Tuesday and Friday, Wednesday and Sunday or something like that. Obviously this will depend on referee availability to a large extent.

We also plan on having a 'disciplinary system' in place for obvious reasons.

We would be looking at running a league and a cup, the format of which is still to be decided.

Again, any suggestions would be welcome.

What does everyone think?

Meadows team is more or less sorted now, we've got 11 players confirmed.

So that's one team entered :D

Ranald - good to see you've got a team. Are you going to ask Robert Robb to be your manager to lead you back to the glory days of the Meadows team?!

Please click on the following link for the registration form which must be completed and returned to the meeting on Sunday.

You may have to download Adobe Acrobat Reader to read the above - if so click on the following link:-

Ranald, with regards finance we can book 10 games in advance to receive a discount - each pitch would be £24. However, as you know we need money up front to make this booking. Campbeltown Boys AFC still have 4 games left of a 10 game block booking and they have offered us these 4 games free to start the league off (many thanks). In addition there is some money available from the old Kintyre League which would also help until we find our feet.

There are various local groups we could try and 'tap' into and the Sports Council is an obvious one. Ricky at Kintyre Youth Enquiry Service will attend on Sunday too and there are avenues there too.

It will be important to get a good committee behind the league too so please support this!
