SAFL Premier Division 2 - Campbeltown Pupils 2 v 5 Alba Thistle
Campbeltown Pupils lost out on any hope of promotion to Premier Division One with defeat in their final game of the season to this year's SAFL Div 2 Champions Alba Thistle. The Renfrewshire side showed exactly why they ended their league season undefeated with what turned out to be a convincing victory at a sun soaked Kintyre Park.
Thistle raised to a 2-0 lead in the first half and shortly after the interval made it 3-0 with another well worked move. Credit to the local side who did rally for 20 minutes and pulled two back. The first from Gregor McFadyen followed by one from sub Sorley McKinven gave the Pupils a glimer of hope as they clawed back into the game at 3-2. However, the champions were in no mood to blemish their unbeaten record this season as the stepped up a level and notched up another two towards the end of the game to make it fifteen wins and three draws for the season.
So the Pupils finish the season 4th and miss out on promotion to Premier Div One. Its a very young Pupils side who will take massive experience from their season which will stand them in better stead for another season in Premier Two. Promotion this year may have been a step too soon for this exciting young Campbeltown side who have a very bright future.
