Scottish Amateur Cup - Round 4

Campbeltown Pupils AFC 1 v 4 Dennistoun AFC

Campbeltown Pupils exited the Scottish Cup today at the hands of a very useful Denistoun side. Playing in a very heavy heavy Kintyre Park, the local side were very much on the back foot from the start of the game as the visitors from Glasgow took control of the game.

Against the run of play it was the home team who took the lead when a powerful run down the left by Craig Lang, who sent a delightful cross in to the box for the Pupils top goal scorer, Gary Grumoli, to meet perfectly with a glancing header to leave the keeper helpless. Five minutes later Denistoun could have drew level but for a great save from Craig Lamont in goal. However, on the next attack Denistoun made it 1-1 with a header from their centre forward William Drummond (Bert).

The Pupils started brightly in the second half but 15 minutes in the visitors made it 2-1 with a superd goal. A flighted cross from the right found the Denistoun no 10 on the left who set-up an opportunity on goal with a great first touch to take him away from Robertson before sending a delightful chip over Lamont. If you thought this was the goal of the match the third goal was fit enough to grace any football pitch - a looping ball was met perfectly by Drummond who, from all of 25 yards, sent a stunning volley in to the top corner to make it 3-1. The big centre forward got his hat-trick with ten minutes remaining when Grant Grant handled the ball on the line. Grant saw red and Drummond made it 4-1 to the visitors from the penalty spot before heading for the bench.

A very young Campbeltown Pupils side shouldn't be too dishertened to lose to a vastly experienced and skillful Glasgow side. The locals have youth on their side and they will have plenty of years ahead of them to enjoy better success in the Scottish Cup.
