Doon the Water Pairs with photos (Stonvaar Bowling Club)

Postby Kintyre Forum News » Sat Jul 23, 2011 12:45 am

The "Doon the Water Pairs" sponsored by A Blair Funeral Directors came to an end tonight celebrating a week of bowling at Campbeltown Bowling Club (Stronvaar). In fine weather the last 4 pairs met to decide who would go on to the final with £100 prize money available to each winner. John Johnston and Rena Cleugh showed great consistency all week to take the coveted trophy in front of a very large crowd.

Hopefully I can update this with more detail once big Hugh has stopped dishing out the burgers but here are some photos for now.

Wee e-mail from the Burgermeister himself! :-)

144 burgers and hot dogs and 3 boxes of wine consumed and we had to send out for more before the final finished. Last night was a perfect end to a good week of bowling and keeps the club's profile high amongst the members and friends.

The semi finals were between John Johnston and Rena Cleugh against son Archie Johnston and Mark Leishman and swung on a 5 shot count to John in the last end and David McCormick and Ryan Leishman (or was it Andy Murray's wee brother) against Hugh Newland and Bill Andrew where Davie dominated from start to finish. As you saw, John and Rena were in command of the final from start to finish.

County finals on the green this afternoon then Top Ten v Argyll on Sunday, busy, busy.
