Last week, Campbeltown Bowling Club held the ever popular 'Doon the Water' Pairs that was again wholly sponsored by Alasdair Blair. An excellent entry of 36 pairs played and were whittled down to the semi-finals on Friday night with matches between Jimmy C Anderson and Lorraine Brodie against Willie Munro and George Cleugh and Hugh MacDonald and Alan McCormick and Jimmy Anderson and Marie Maguire. A large crowd, some attracted by the free barbeque that is a feature of the event, saw two good matches that resulted in wins for the Anderson pairs. Unfortunately, the final was very one sided despite another superb lead performance from Lorraine who had excelled throughout, and Jimmy and Marie emerged as very comfortable winners. President Robert Hendrie and sponsor Alasdair Blair presented the trophy and prize cheques.

Jimmy Anderson continued a good week's work on Saturday in Ardrishaig when, in partnership with John McCormick, he won the County Knockout Pairs final. Also in the winners enclosure were the Stronvaar four of John McLean, Gavin McLachlan, Ranald Watson and Robert Hendrie. Sadly, the club has no representation at the national finals at Ayr Northfield this year but hopes that John McLachlan and Bobby Mathieson from the Argyll club can do the town proud at this great venue.

That would be the 'Doon the Water' Pairs sponsored by Alasdair Blair.

Thanks for posting the article, pity you couldn't have airbrushed the geezer at the far right of the photo.

Great article. Why doesn't bowling in Campbeltown have a higher profile? Well done to everyone involved.
