Hello Folks,

Craigaig is the walk planned for 3rd May, to be led by Sheila Reid.

Meet in Lorne and Lowland Church car park at 11.00. Arrange transport to Ballygroggan, and from there the walk is about three miles, and takes approx. two and a half hours (including a stop for lunch). The terrain varies from track to boggy parts, muddy parts, plus crossing a small burn (bridges provided) and a steepish downward path to the ruins at Craigaig where we will stop for lunch.

Please bring walking boots, waterproofs, sticks, and packed lunch.

Regards,

John and Marion

Hello Folks,

The Church Walk for 5th July is from Macharioch to Carskiey, approximately five miles, and should take around four hours. Pat Healey will be the leader.

Meet at Lorne and Lowland Church at 11 a.m. Drive to Carskiey car park in Southend, leave 50% of cars and then car share to Macharioch. We will be shown where to park on arrival. The farmer has been consulted and we will take his suggestion. Walk from Macharioch seashore back to Carskiey via all the beaches, then pick up cars and drive back to Macharioch to collect left cars. There is the option of tea and homemade cakes at Muneroys Tea Room, Southend, at the end of the day.

Please bring lunch, boots, waterproofs and sticks. The walk is not long in mileage but can be tiring and requires care at a couple of points.

John and Marion

Hello Everybody,

A change to the walk for September! As the August walk was cancelled because of bad weather, Dugald and Moira have said they'll be happy to do that in September, and Jenny McFarlane, who was to have led the September walk from Ballegreggan Road to Greenland, has agreed this is a good idea.

So now the proposed walk for September 6th is from Knocknaha to Glenramskil, and is approx. 5-6 miles over moorland, and maybe some boggy areas. Stop for lunch at the Black Loch. A walk up to the trig point is optional, but well worth it for the view from there. Head back to Glenramskil Farm for a cup of tea with Dugald and Moira.

Meet as usual at 11.00 in the Church Car Park, arrange transport. Please bring packed lunch, waterproofs, and sticks. Walking boots essential.

Hello Everybody,

The walk for November is to Kilchrist Castle, to be led by John Barton.
This is mainly on farm track and moorland, some of which can be rough in
places. Approx. 2½ - 3 miles.

Meet in the Church car park at 11.00, and arrange transport. Boots
essential. Please also bring packed lunch, waterproofs and walking sticks.

Can we also apologise for the October walk e-mail not reaching people,
we have a new computer and things are quite different from what we're
used to - the e-mail was sent, but goodness only knows where it went!
Just hoping this one doesn't go the same way!

All best,

John and Marion

Hi Folks,

The walk for December 6th starts and finishes at Glenramskil.

Meet in the church car park at 11.00 a.m., arrange transport. Park at
Glenramskil road end. Walk along the road, past the sheep fanks, up the
hill, then over the hill towards Glenramskil. Stop on the hill
overlooking the town for lunch. Carry on after lunch to Glenramskil
farm for tea and scones.

The walk is on tarmac road and drovers road. Approx. 3-4 miles ... 1½-2
hrs. walking.

Please bring wet weather gear, packed lunch, sturdy waterproof walking
boots (or wellies if you feel that might be more sensible). Walking
sticks/poles optional.

* * * * *

Further to an excellent reccie earlier this year on Arran, covering the
"Cock of Arran", a superb coastal walk of some eight miles - a big thank
you to those involved and Cara! - it has been suggested that a two night
visit back to Arran in early May, i.e. early ferry on Friday, returning
on the late ferry on Sunday, would give scope for numerous walks over
three days. We are hoping to book the Youth Hostel in Lochranza for
this venture, so would need an early response of definite uptakers in
order to reserve rooms at the Hostel, so please let us know ASAP if you
want to take part.

Hello everybody,

Since Kathleen is unable to lead the walk for 7th March, and also
because the terrain could be very boggy and perhaps overgrown, it has
been decided to do Lussa Loch to Ballochgair (approx 6 miles) as it is
mainly all forestry track. To do this we will need cars at both ends,
so could you please e-mail back soonest, so that we can determine how
many people will be walking, and therefore the number of volunteer car
owners/drivers needed to do this.

Volunteers should leave the church car park at 10.30 sharp to get cars
to Ballochgair, and be back to the church for 11.00 departure to Lussa.

Please use comfortable sturdy footwear, bring waterproofs and lunch.

Look forward to your replies.

Hello Walkers,

The walk for 4th April, 2015, is scheduled for the Largie Estate, Tayinloan, to be led by John Barton. The walk is mainly on track and moorland, some of which may be rough/muddy in places. It should take approx. 4 hours, including a lunch break. We walk by the ruins of the old house, passing the old laundry, up and over a meadow to a forest track, looking back to superb views over the isles of Gigha, Islay and Jura. After a while we cross a ford and arrive at the ruins of Lagloskine. Stop here for lunch, then return via the same route.

Meet at 11.00 in Lorne and Lowland Church car park, arrange transport.

Please bring walking boots, sticks, waterproofs and packed lunch.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Kathleen has arranged for us to meet in the Lorne and Lowland Church lounge at 7.30pm. on Wed. 25th March, to discuss the walking programme for 2015-2016. Please come along and give us your ideas/suggestions. If you cannot make the meeting, please e-mail any suggestions to us, which we can then take along to the meeting, and help formulate the programme.

Hope to see you all there,
