Hello Everybody,

We start the new walking season with the walk arranged for Clachan.

Meet at Lorne and Lowland Church car park at 11 am, bring lunch, boots, waterproofs. Arrange transport, travel to Clachan village and park near the school.

This is a circular route, 5-6 miles, where we will be walking on road up a gradient to Loup House, and continue back along the shore, where we will lunch and then return to vehicles. Please be prepared for muddy/boggy in places along the shore.

Let's hope the good weather stays with us for Saturday!

Regards,

Hello Everybody,

As the first Saturday of June is part of the long Bank Holiday weekend, it was decided, at the meeting, that June's walk will be on the second Saturday, i.e. June 9th, to Gigha.

The walk is to be led by Sadie Colville and Alister McNeill, and will be approx. 4-5 miles across varied terrain.

Catch 11.00 ferry to Gigha.

Ferries return on the half hour, up to 17.30 hrs. - we usually aim for the 15.30.

Ferry fare this year is £6.90 return.

Please bring lunch, boots, waterproofs, sticks, and midge cream!

Any queries, please ring Sadie on 01586-820266.

Hello Walkers,

The walk for November 3rd will be led by Ian Teesdale, and takes place at Muasdale.

Meet 11.00 at Lorne and Lowland Church car park, arrange transport to Muasdale.

Go up A83 to just short of Muasdale. A hundred yards or so before the first houses there is a turn-off to the right. Park there, and walk along the lane north-east for about a mile and a half till we get to the forest edge. Continue along a forest path as far as we want to, then stop for lunch. Return to the cars the way we came. Total distance about four miles. Going underfoot is good all the way.

Please be prepared for any weather that may be thrown at us, and bring a packed lunch.

John and Marion

Hello Walkers,

The walk on December 1st is to Auchalochy, Loch Ruan and Greenland, and will be led by Jenny McFarlane.

After a recent reccie, it seems the walk will take approx. 4½ - 5 hours. Because there will be less daylight, the walk will start at 10.30, leaving from the Snipefield Call Centre car park.

A good walk with interesting and beautiful views. A couple of fences to climb over, and gates that cannot be opened. There are also some boggy patches.

Please bring walking sticks/poles, wet weather gear, packed lunch. It's been suggested that wellington boots might be sensible, but leave that to yourselves to decide between those and sturdy walking boots.

All best,

John and Marion

Hello Everybody,

The first walk of the New Year is on 5th January, and is Westport to Macrihanish. Transport and lunch are flexible, people may prefer to take cars and leave at either end of the walk, or use the buses. For those using the buses, meet at the stands for the 11.30 Glasgow bus. The return bus times from Macrihanish are 1.30, 3.30 and 4.30.

Packed lunch is optional, some people may prefer to eat at Macrihanish, or just go straight home.

Please wrap up well and use suitable footwear for beach walking; waterproofs; walking sticks if you feel you need them.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2013.

Hi Folks,

The Church Walk for March is at Strone Glen.

Meet on Saturday, 2nd March, in Lorne and Lowland Church car park, at 11 a.m.. Arrange transport to Carskaiey Farm, on the road to Mull of Kintyre, where we can park cars by the archway. John Barton will be leading the walk, which is on a good footpath, somewhat hilly in places, but on the whole, not too difficult a walk of approx. total of 5-6 miles - maybe a bit less. Hopefully the daffodils will be out!

Please bring walking boots, waterproofs, lunch. Sticks for this walk are optional.

Hello Everybody,

An important message to all walkers!

Kathleen McGougan has kindly arranged for us to use a room in the New Hall at the Lorne and Lowland Church, for Wednesday, 27th March, 2013, at 7.30 p.m.to arrange our next year's walking programme. Please come along and bring any ideas/suggestions for the walks. If you are unable to make the meeting, but have suggestions, please e-mail them to us, or pass them on to someone who will be attending the meeting.

The walk on April 6th is at Largie Estate, Tayinloan, to be led by John Barton. The walk is mainly on track and moorland, some of which may be rough in places. It should take approx. 4 hours (inc. lunch). We walk by the ruins of the old house, passing the old laundry, up and over a meadow to a forest track, looking back to superb views over the isles of Gigha, Islay and Jura. After a while we cross a ford and arrive at the ruins of Lagloskine. Stop here for lunch, then return via the same route.

Meet at 11.00 in Lorne and Lowland Church car park, and arrange transport.

Please bring walking boots, sticks, waterproofs and packed lunch.

Regards,

John and Marion
