Best pub in Dundee?

Anyone had the pleasure of downing a pint or two or three or more in this pub?

Not the best pub in Dundee

Postby almax » Sun Dec 31, 2006 4:19 am

Bill

Great photo - when I was a long-haired student in Dundee 1972-75 I lived in a flat just 30 yards up the lane from the pub in the picture- in Tait's Lane - in those days it was a real spit and sawdust, men-only (I'm not joking- women were not allowed in !!) hard-drinking pub - it looks a lot posher now - the two great merits for me were the name of the pub and the fact that it was within staggering distance from home. I was a regular in there for a couple of years.

Nice memories revived by your photo.

No idea but I see there's another bar with the same name in Ayr.

Campbeltwon Bar - Ayr

Postby Hels » Mon Sep 24, 2007 11:38 am

I was a student in both Dundee and Ayr. Never came across the one in Dundee but the bus into town went right past the Ayr one!

After 4 years of persuassion, me and my mates stumbled in there one night just after we finished our finals. I was pretty much inebriated by the time we went in, but it was defnately what Almax calls a "spit and sawdust place", where I doubt few women had gone before - the ladies was basically a cleaning cupboard with the loo stuck in as an afterthought! But this wasn't the 1970's - it was 2001! Never waited long, even though the drink was cheap!
