Gale force west to northwest winds at Machrihanish today. In between the heavy showers and when the sun came out I took these pics. The sea birds had a party as the big Atlantic swell bore down on the shoreline bringing them some form of feeding.

I do not have a good enough photo of my own, but this a one courtesy of Eddie McGuires wildlife collection. A CD is available, details on the Machrihanish Birds website and is well worth buying, the photo's are splendid.

It was amazing the different birds in such a small area, as mentioned Oystercatchers, Redshanks, Gulls, Dunhills and hiding amongst the seaweed a Rock Pipit.

I had a really nice pic of a couple of oyster catchers in Corpus Christi in action, scooping the water with their beaks in flight. Had never seen one before that.

Great pictures of the wee village. Why does one leave one's native land ?
I wonder ,does the water tank up from" Wreck Cottage " still have water in it ?
Was water supply to original " Millbay Cottage ".

Re oystercatchers : they are known to nest on side of road here . Find them on the riverbeds in land.
Believe they do same in Scotland.

Great photos jd of the Pans on a stormy day ...and it still looks picturesque. I love watching and listening to the sea on a stormy day but not running against it. :oops:
