Views from waverley

Postby ex campbeltown lady » Mon Jul 26, 2010 8:34 pm

Managed to catch up with the Waverley at long last during a week in the town and enjoyed a trip around Davaar and Sanda. A few unusual views to share. If anyone has information re the view of the cross near Southend I would be interested in hearing.

And as a contrast the next day had mist rolling in over the hills at Southend.

Thanks for those pics. Loved the Southend ones and know 'that' mist very well.

Ex,

Great pics, that's the best shot of Sanda lighthouse I've seen to date.

The cross is Macharioch cross. See: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1483956

Thank you for the link Crowth. Heres a couple more from different angles. Really lucky as it was a dead calm sea that day.

Aye the rock it sits on is called Prince Edward Rock, the one next to its called Elephant Rock for obvious reasons, not surprised you were'nt aware of its existence, the only place you can really see it from the mainland is on the road to the Mull Lighthouse, I think? 4 Gen?

Yes you can see it from the Carskiey to Mull track. These two photos taken last year just show the lighthouse on the southern tip of Sanda.

If you walk on the clifftops around about the radio mast outside Southend you can see the top of it

On your second post of pictures of the Sanda light, in the bay by the cottages lies the wreck of the Byron Darnton which gives the pub on Sanda its name.

Thanks for the pics, i am looking forward to being up there late August :)

edit..BTW meant to say, love the Southend mist photos!
