Ladies and Gentlemen on behalf of Alec Howie, British Waterways, Ardrishaig it gives me great pleasure to announce the inaugral CRINAN CANAL 9, a nine mile point to point flat race between Crinan and Ardrishaig using the Crinan Canal towpath.

The event is open to a maximum of 250 entrants. Time, entry fee and further race details will be announced at a later date.

And for your training diaries the race date is

SUNDAY 11th MAY 2008

Runners wishing to register interest should email alec.howie@Britishwaterways.co.uk to be placed on an email group for further updates.

Alec is a first time race organiser and I wish him every success. :D

Oh go on then twist my arm ....sounds like i nice flat race and a good long run just before the MOK so count me in. :D

A few years ago I walked the Dawn Patrol which was held up in Ardrishaig raising money for cancer , it was along the Crinan Canal and back . A very enjoyable walk except for the midges that were out that morning.

Fiona - are you getting a squad from jog scotland to do this? I'm up for it! It doesn't clash with women's 10k in Glasgow does it? I tried to find out on internet but couldn't find anything :(

All I can find on the internet Elaine is date to be confirmed - last 2 years it has been 2 weeks before MOK which would mean a clash.

I've never done the woman's 10k in Glasgow, but I'm going to do the Crinan race as a nine miler would be better preparation for the MOK half. It's also nearer to home, and I like the atmosphere better at these smaller local races :)

I have phoned the race hotline and they confirmed the Ladies 10K will be Sunday 18th May 2008 so there is no clash with Crinan! They also confirmed the Great Scottish Run will be Sun 7th Sept.

Hi Claire!

Thanks for the info. May looks like being a busy month for races .... will have to resist doing too many

And another date for the diary .... the Great Scottish Run is definitely not one to miss :)

Thats excellent news - the atmosphere at the ladies 10k is like nothing I have ever experienced before - its great news that they don't clash and its just going to be a heck of a busy year - babysitters take note 8)
