MOKRUN 2008-Open meeting Aqualibrium-Sat 20th October 10am

Postby Tom B » Wed Sep 26, 2007 8:21 pm

What sort of event should MOKRUN 2008 be?

Given the huge community support in hosting MOKRUN in 2006 & 2007, the committee are keen to hear your views on how it should be run in 2008. An open meeting, MOKRUN AGM will be held in the Aqualibrium Conference Room on Saturday 20 October from 10 - 12.

All ideas and suggestions welcome either at the meeting, or in advance on this thread or by PM.

Any other events or activities around the race weekend?
Any suggestions about the routes?
Could we cope with any more runners? - 500 entered in 2007 (Another 50 entries not accepted) , 460 took part.
Dates - Sunday 25th May? - despite the clash with Edinburgh Marathon?
Any other changes/suggestions?

Thanks
Tom B

sorry i wont make the meeting, but eager to help out in any way, what about a 5k to entice the walkers who would do the 10k into doing a bit of jogging rather than walking the whole way round, jogscotland could cope with training anybody up who wanted to try this :D
have had a few people inspired by the joggers coming to jogscotland already wanting to try jogging for 2008, if you held the 5k at a diff time then you wouldnt be short of marshalls as the people entering the 10k / half marathon could marshall for the 5K - Jogscotland could help to organise that. :D

im in perth doing the cancer research 10k around scone palace that weekend

count me in again for the warm up - that was a real buzz :D

TomB, if the 500 entry limit was reached last year, would it matter if the MOK clashed with the Edinburgh Marathon, although I know of someone who wants to do both ... that's not me by the way!

My opinion on the date is you have got it just right.Edinburgh will have no bearing on the people that would want to run the MoK 1/2 or 10k ,whats on offer here over the weekend is enough to draw the numbers.Having it over the bank holiday suits a lot of people for a number of reason too.

Cannot do the meeting, but as ever, put me down for stewarding duties, ferrying people around, etc.

Cheers

Funny thing, I was just about to ask if the date was fixed yet for next year! For what it's worth, I think you have a winning formula so don't make changes for the sake of change, although the idea of a 5k is good. I certainly intend to be there next year, all being well!

Tom B and committee,

With regards to the routes,l can't really say anything about the 10k route, but l would like to mention about the 1/2m route.

If you are planning a change due to the new golf course being constructed then its a fair one,but if you are not then the reason l would not want a change is because of the 2 previous race's.The first is, it is not a pb course as we all know, but it has runners who have raced it and who use their previous times as their race pb,and changes put's a little tarnish on their earlier attemps.

the second reason is it has three type's of terrain to contend with, which is a challenge in its self and it has your best asset, the scenery all along the route.

In saying all that,it is your call and its you and your committee that do a grand job and all the hard work.

l hope to get to the meeting ,but if l can't then this is the reason l am putting my thoughts on this thread so they can be debated.

i agree with djd after chopping a good few minutes off this year im hoping to do the same this year - but i suppose that is a selfish reason for not having change - you know the truth of the matter is whatever you do with the route you will probably find that the runners will support you :D cos we are a great bunch 8)

The 4 main committee members were at the meeting as well as 4 others.....3 JogScotland lassies and me!
Not a huge turn out. But certainly no complaints from anyone I hastily add.

Much was discussed and many plans were made. It will all be getting relaunched again soon....bigger and better still. That committee miss nothing, the have it spot on.

Then I went running with 2 of the 4 committee members at night, right roon the toon. Much of the 10k course and the Davaar scheme and other bits, it was very pleasant indeed under the street lights.

Glad to hear was a good meeting - was away and meant to put in my apologies
looking forward to the MOKRUN 2008

for anyone out there who ran the first (?) 1/2 marathon way back in Campbeltown, it was 1988, was a bit of a shock to realise I need to knock 30 minutes off of last year's time to get back to pb
DVD were you there?
might be checking out who's still running or encourage some back for MOKRUN 2008
