Big congratulations to Jackie Willis, from Carradale, who despite suffering a painful injury wasn't going to let it beat him, albeit beating him into last place.

By finishing he also managed to raise quite a lot of money for MacMillan Cancer Care.

Much respect, dude.

Just a wee post to add my congratulations to all the race organisers and everyone involved - it truly is a cracking event!
Re Hector being first Campbeltonian home, I'm afraid I was a few places in front of him, so I claim that honour, as I was born in Craigard and lived in the town till my early twenties. It was a great feeling, running down Main Street towards the finish. Coincidentally, I last ran a race in Campbeltown in the old version of the half marathon (in 1990) and finished in exactly the same position, albeit I was 14 minutes faster then! Tempus fugit!!
:D :D :D

I'm sure you'll have no problems in doing the 13.1 miles Duke. After all, I remember the way you used to impress your former work colleagues with your "physical prowess" in disciplines like Press-Ups and Chair Dips. Not to mention your excellent hand/eye co-ordination when attempting the "Fling The Mug" or the "Launch The Stapler" and who can forget the old favourite "Clock Frisbie" (however, you met your Waterloo here when you didn't bank on the clock fitting through the wee gap that the window was open).

Jist get yersel' a decent pair of running shoes - your old Winfield Plimsoles will only gie ye a lot of grief.

cheers for that davie, i hadnt even thot about it, my placing that is - not the veteran bit.

i did a bit of moanin last year via e-mail to tom barbour about being placed in the veteran category as it was 36 and over for the ladies last year. this year i got an e-mail back saying that he hoped i was pleased to be in the senior category as they had upped the age of the veteran to 40 :!: :!:

to this i just didnt reply.

Guilty as charged, Sir Ralston.

Mind you (and going just a wee bit of the thread here), it's always good to have something like that on your CV. Although I just missed out on being the understudy to the Phantom Flan Flinger on last summer's "Tiswas on Tour", I was able to secure a small role in the west-end reprisal of Bugsy Malone.

Anyway - back to the main topic; I look forward to reading of your future progress on the "How's the training going?" thread.

Sounds like you guys have the makings of a whole new competition! Think you might get 30 interested?  Could be kind of a parody competition...

who knows!
