MOK WON !

Postby hendrie » Thu Jan 12, 2012 12:04 am

MOK RUN has been voted No 1 Half Marathon in the UK for 2011 by readers of Runners World, following on from its No 1 rating in 2010.

Runners World said on its web site on 4 Jan 2012:

"Welcome to the Runner’s World Races of the Year, your essential guide to the very best of British racing. Last year, the 680,000 members of runnersworld.co.uk placed 18,594 reviews of over 3,600 events. We’ve combed through them all to find the cream of the crop, so you can plan your perfect year of racing in 2012."

Half Marathons:

"1. Mull of Kintyre Half-Marathon, Argyll & Bute, Scotland
Date in 2012: June 3
You’ll need more than just a day to soak up the remote beauty of Mull – so it’s a good job the organisers lay on a pre-race pasta party and post-race ceilidh. This race festival scored highly for atmosphere – and the flat route along Campbeltown Loch and Westport Beach makes for an unforgettable run"

Mull?? Some mistake surely?! There will now be many Runners World readers thinking the event takes place on a certain island accessed by ferry from Oban. Could they not have said 'Kintyre' or 'the Mull of Kintyre'?

I think(hope) they probably meant to say "The Mull". But as this is the second year (I think) it has been voted Best Half Marathon, I think it is great that the town is getting this accolade. And more importantly, the organising committee should have a huge pat on the back for the marvelous, and evolving, job they have done in getting the event to where it is on the national calander. :D
