With 650 competitors running this Sunday in the Mull of Kintyre Half Marathon and 10k Run and more than 50% of the entrants from outside Argyll we would encourage everyone to come out and support this truly wonderful event for Campbeltown and Kintyre.

Please encourage your friends, family, neighbours to line the streets and cheer everyone on.

It is the least we can do to support the competitors and the wonderful effort put in by the MOKRUN Commitee to make this event happen!

Yes good luck to everyone. We have a family staying with us all the way from London. They are loving Kintyre!

Does anyone know if the local shops will be open tomorrow?

Another excellent race weekend. Congratulations to all the organisers and participants. But were there actually 650 runners? It didn't seem like it, and there seemed to be far fewer walkers, too. Nevertheless, a great showcase for the town and the area, with many of the runners from far afield, including my own Staffordshire contingent. Well done Kate and Becky on finishing the Half Marathon!

Thanks WC1. You are right, 650 had entered but there were many cancellations this is why it may have seemed less. This was a great shame for them as most were injured and gutted to have missed the event, and for others who wanted to enter and couldn't. We are looking to increase the field next year and if it does fill up very early we will maybe look to introducing a reserve list.

The fact that 650 runners, walkers or whatever had entered and only so many actually got to the starting line has no bearing on the outcome of a great day organised by a very committed team that put a race together. It was their loss and mine as l was one that did not make the start neither.

As a runner, what ever the reason you might miss the starting line, you wait untill the last minute to decide if you will make it.So if you pull the plug on the race and paid your due's then that is one's choice or unfortunate circumstance to miss out.

So l do not know where you are comming from,if it is the fact that one did not get into the race due to missing the dead line, then a lesson could be learned and one should enter early, which brings me on to a reserve list that has been mentioned.

It would work to a degree, but why have the hassle, when if you want a 1000 runners and they have paid up,and on leading up a 100 pull out a week befor will it have any bearing on the outcome of a great weekend that Campbeltown(Mok) put on. NO it won't

I personally don't for one minute think so,and if you go down that line then, think close to home to fill the gaps if there would be any. Also not many Road Races do have a reserve list.l think you have enougth on your plates to worry about who turns up or not.You will always have a short fall on the day.

Thanks DJD, it was a fantastic achievment to have 650 people enter. We were expecting a lot to drop out due to injury etc etc which always happens and I know many, including yourself, would've loved to have taken part but it just wasn't to be (next year!)

This is exactly the reason why we have never had a reserve list DJD and I doubt we will have one next year, it was just a thought... A lot of people were asking to get a place when they knew someone had already dropped out that day but it really adds to our admin/workload and just isn't manageable.

I think next year we will review our numbers and look to increase capacity slightly but as you say - people will just need to ensure they enter early for 2011 so they don't miss out!

almost every road race has at least a 10% drop out rate. It was a bit more on Sunday but that was just random chance.

Operating a reserve list would be very dificult indeed. As DJD said, I dont think there will be any races that do..I suppose the reserve list is built in to the original entries.

Increasing the upper entrant limit is possible and will be considered by the committee I am sure. But, bigger does not, neccessarily, mean better, but at the same time we dont want to disappoint people who want to run.

Fiona28 look at the results, give or take one or two then the answer lies there if it's that important, which l don't think so ,but it would be alot better if everyone had run or even turned up.,Ah well maybe next year the turn out will be to everyones expectations.

Still the best weekend in Scotland.

easy on djd, there could have been 50 and i would still have had the best time - i did and always do have the best time - guaranteed - dont think anyones expectations have been let down one bit :D was just asking a simple question

A fair and justified comment back Fiona28.

Sometimes l am too defensive on certain things.(lol)
