Upgrade to phpBB3

Postby Malky » Sat Apr 26, 2008 9:51 pm

The board has now been upgraded to phpBB3. The upgrade involved a conversion of the old database so there may be the odd problem. If you could bear with me till I sort it all out, I'd be grateful.

If you have any problems please post them in this thread.

Some things that may happen:
Your avatar may be missing. If so just upload it again.
You can't login. Due to the way passwords are handled in phpBB3, it is not always possible to transfer them all. For passwords "lost in translation" the easiest workaround is to use the "forgotten password" function when logging in.
Smilies missing. I can see that some are not there. I'll fix that.

The style that we are using here needs some tweaks to make things easier to read etc. I'll look at that over the next day or so.

Anything else, post it here.

Thanks JD.

I tried fixing members avatars from backup but I can't get them to work so I'm afraid everyone will have to re-upload them by themselves.

When I logon as my normal account the various forums are displayed.

However, when I logon as Kintyre Forum News the following message appears

Information
Sorry, but the board is currently closed for maintenance. Please check back again later.

Some can see and some can't? :?

Testing, testing, 1, 2, 3 .. testing..

Can you hear me now...

Hello, hello, hello... is there anybody out there...

I have no options that I can see to change font, color, add things, etc, although my profile says to include all that stuff.
Looking a little strange in these here parts, but once we get used to it, it will probably be great.. but ohhhh the sufferin' before the gettin' used to :)) (laugh laugh)

That's fixed now Davie.

I tried another thing with the avatars but that didn't work either. Sorry :? It's an upload by everyone I'm afraid.

I forgot to say as well, that the photo in the header is courtesy of Archie Anderson 8)

@ Bobbie. There are lots of new features. It's all starting to give me a headache now  Hopefully it will all work out.

i'm sure i'll get used to it- but for the moment it's making my eyes go funny!

perhaps a sticky explaining the different colours and folders might be helpful for the next wee while??

i.e. what's new, what's been updated etc.

How do we upload the avatar? There is not a profile button as there was before. Or am I just missing it?

Emdee, up on top there is User Control Panel. Click that, then profile, then edit avatar

I could do with a sticky to help me find my way around :?

There is a FAQ link at the top that may help some. Hover over the various icons for an explanation of what they do. Instead of a simple profile link you now have a full User Control Panel with lots of features to confuse you - err help you.

Basically, everything has been upgraded as phpBB3 is completely new software to phpBB2 which the old forum used. I did hold off upgrading for as long as possible but phpBB2 is no longer being supported. All I can say is stick with it - I'm sure it will get easier.

@ionnsaigh. :lol: You liar :wink:

Pans Lass, I believe that as this is an announcement posting there are no smilies or BBCode etc available for posters replying. You should have all these things elsewhere though.
