Found this on a genealogy site, thought some might be interested, any local info on this?


Note : Another Hutcheson/MacBrayne vessel "CLANSMAN, 271 ton, schooner rig
paddle steamer, master Malcolm Sinclair, of Glasgow. Bound from Oban to
Glasgow. General cargo. About 100 persons saved. Lost 21 July 1869, 7.15am.
Sanda Island about 1/2 mile north west of lighthouse. wind south, thick fog.
Cause of wreck, thick fog. 'Struck on a reef of rock. The passengers were
all landed on the island with their luggage & a number of sheep by the
steamers own boats. At 5pm the CLANSMAN began to fill & the stern sank till
the paddle boxes were nearly covered. She became a total wreck.'
