Music Groups from Kintyre

Postby Ship called Dignity » Sat Apr 19, 2008 9:57 pm

Was speaking to someone the other day who mentioned the photo of the Sceptres that I posted recently.

Image

He went on to mentioned other bands down the years.

One was the Mysterians (Spelling?)

I thought this might be a good thread to see which bands people can remember and if they have any photos.

Could be the start of a good thread

Remember a band in late 80's called Wishful Thinking, from memory think Za Mitchell, Alan Hutchison, Paul McGougan and Paul Craig all played with them but might be wrong :? , think they payed in a kind of Live Aid type gig in the Vic alomg with other local bands, if anyone could help with the correct line up it would be good to jog my old memory

Would also be good to know the line up from the early days of the Wee Toon Tellers :?:

The group that I remember from the Victoria Hall dances in the late 60s was the Zodiacs.

I can't remember any of the members, but I recall that they did once make a record. I heard it being played on Radio Clyde? (it was a pirate radio broadcasting from a ship). The record never did much. They were managed by Alex McMillan (who owned the Gents outfitters shop in the town).

The group seemed to fade away are were replaced at the dances by the Sceptres.

They started off on Sunday nights in the Feathers and Thursdays in the Parahandy they were then joined by Archie and Alex McAllister Dave Bisset and Ross Kennedy.

the original members of the mysterians were jan mohammed, stanley sexton, jimmy mcnaughton, james mckinven.some others included kenneth morrison, chris blair and flo mclellan.it should be noted that they were managed by alex mcmillan who was the production manager at andrew douglas clothing factory[recently known as jaeger] and not the person as stated previously.i hope to have some old photos to show soon of them

Look forward to that.

I remember Chris Blair was the lead singer with the Mysterians when he worked in Andrew Douglas's.

Wasn't Sweeney Copping in one of the bands? Early sixties

Remember a cracker of a photo we had of the Mysterians on the wall
of my work area in Jaeger.
One of my former workmates there had a rake of them, I think he even co-managed the group
with Alec MacMillan.

Great pics Dougie.

Certainly brings back memories of going to the dancing in The Vic/Town Hall/"Bowry",way back in the 60's.

One of the guys in the group was known as "Prof",short for professor, owing to him being so brainy. If my memory serves me right I think it was Jimmy McNaughton. :?
