Craigard

Postby chuckiebay » Mon Feb 11, 2008 10:28 pm

It's 66 years today that the first babies of many were born in Craigard. The first was a boy born to a naval couple then based in Campbeltown. I wonder where he is now? The second was a girl born to a Carradale fisherman. I wonder where she is now. Both these babies got prizes but also the first Campbeltown baby was recognised. Where is she now?

Who was the last baby born in Craigard?

I was born in Graigard many years ago & my son was also born there. Must say it was the best delivery I had, great nurses & midwifes, was sorry to see it go.
Didnt realize that Craigard was only in use for a few years before I was born there, will be interesting to see who & where those 1st babies are now. Would it have been in the courier?????

I thought it was closed before I was born in 67, as very few in my years at school were born there.

Was born there in 1968, I think the last birth there was a girl to a well known
local fishing family.

Indeed true Petewick. However, this was the last official baby born. Apparently, in the afternoon of the last arrival a traveller arrived and gave birth but no details are known.

I know that there was a guy born in a taxi on the esplanade en route
to Craigard.
Think his dad was a fisherman.

My grandson Josh was born in Glasgow Queen Mothers 22nd December 2006. The midwife was a Campbeltown lassie - he was her last delivery before returning home to Campbeltown for Christmas. Thanks Cara .
