Most every man in the town had a knickname, and his was Black Peter.I have no idea why?

Well I can answer that one Bill. There were two Peter McKinlays in the town, and the one we are talking about had very black hair in his younger days, so that was how they were differentiated.

Peter used to run the Rangers busses back in the 70s.Before booze bans. My God, those were the days.
I was told the Council painted Princes St with green doors at one stage and nearly finished him off.
Am I right in thinking his son was named Ibrox.. I remember Peter as a larger than life character, at a time when there was a lot of them about.

I remember the stushie he had with the Council in the 1960s about painting the doors and window frames green. It actually reached the Scottish daily papers and the evening Scottish News.

Rumour has it the council relented and painted the scheme red. I hope that was true.

Have been told that he is still in the town.

Click the link below and what you see to the right of the opening, ground floor flat with tyres in the garden, is where Peter McKinlay stayed. To the left of the opening, the last ground floor flat is where Mr/Mrs Pope lived. The flat in between them at that time was occupied by Mr/Mrs Durnin.

http://g.co/maps/pxwgv

According to my information, three of Peter McKinlay's children now occupy the flat above the one where they grew up.

I remember a whale (may have been a basking shark) washed up on the Dhorlin. Must have been about 40 years ago. OMG. Have you ever had a moment when you have just realised you are getting old.

I remember the one on the Dhorlin. Some of us took a walk over for a closer look. It would be round about 1970, so 40 years ago is about right. It's a long time ago but I seem to remember it was a basking shark.
