kintyre tunnel

Postby KennyG » Wed Feb 21, 2007 2:08 pm

been reading in a couple of places about proposals for a tunnel linking kintyre and antrim in the last century. Anyone know about this?
sounds a bit fantastic, but if the thing i read regarded the last century as the 1800's, then it could have been seriously considered, knowing the victorians.
Most of the info on it was brought up in relation to the proposed forth bridge/tunnel votewinning exercise.

here's a coupla quotes:

theres plenty more stuff on the web, but no actual historic documents/articles.

A kintyre tunnel? now that would top any ferry carry on!

Finally someone has had a brilliant idea. Maybe it can be a combination of bridges and tunnels such as the one built across the Chesapeake Bay on the eastern shore of Virginia. Because of the tunnels even the largest fraters can pass through with the help of tug boats, etc.

Here is good article:

It also has a toll on it, so it really pays for itself!!

Do'nt you think maybe a motorway from Glasgow to Kintyre would be needed ??
I know my Summer'll never come
I know I'll cry until my dying day has come
Let the Winter roll along
I've got nothing left but song

Would be nice for those folks who go up and down the road a lot, but for people like me that only visit every blue moon, the ride down is nice so you can take in the scenery. That is if it is not smirring!!!
