Carradale House and estate

Postby Morag » Fri Aug 05, 2016 4:00 pm

Hi, I'm researching my family through from Kilchoman on Islay to Carradale and would appreciate any help or suggestion of where I might find information. The McPhersons were employed by the owners of Carradale House from 1881 through to 1887, my great-grandfather as a forester and two of the daughters as house servants. Can anyone tell me who the owners/occupiers of Carradale House might have been at that time. Thank you.

Hi,

I only know that the estate owner prior to the Mitchisons was Austin MacKenzie

The original house was built in the sixteen hundreds and then in 1844 by the architects David Bryce and William Burn -- Built for Richard Campbell of Glen Carradale. - - - It became a seat of the Buchanans of Mount Vernon and Drumpellier, Lanarkshire.( dates - - -? any other owner -? - - ) then Mackenzie ,and Mitchison

- - " Carradale House, at its head, is a seat of David Carrick Buchanan, Esq. of Drumpellier" from http://www.scottish-places.info/scotgaz ... ry675.html

Are there records available related to people who were employed on the Carradale estate?
Thanks
