Female School Society, Campbeltown, early 1800s

While researching some family material in the archives in Lochgilphead, I came across mention of a "Female School Society" in Campbeltown. Materials for the school had been purchased from Archibald and Nathaniel McNair in 1830.
There is also a brief mention of the "female schools" in The Campbeltown Book, page 179.
I'd be interested to know more. Can any forum member provide more information?
Thanks and regards
