Big Kiln

Has anybody any information as to the name Big Kiln (street). Was it for pottery, bricks, or something to do with the whisky trade. Was there also a Little Kiln?

I have often wondered over the years about the Big Kiln name, never really had a good answer.
I never thought about if there was a little kiln, genius.
I hope someone knows.

Was this the location of a lime kiln in bygone days? Lime Kilns can still be seen dotted around in various locations in Kintyre and it is feasible that there may have been one there at one time. (Maybe it was a big one?)

There was the Caledonian distillery at the junction of Glebe St. & Big Kiln corner which was accessed by Warm Water Close. It opened in 1823 and closed in 1851.
