Anybody tell me what the 'real' use for the circular structures in the field near Kilchousland was for?.

I was always told & believed that they were built in the war for shelters or emplacements for guns?? I believe these buildings are also mirrored in the fields beside the base.

Think that was the real reason eg guns but dont beleve they were ever used.Think maybe the TA used to play around there as I found a few 303 cases years ago,
I first thought the circular things you referred to were the burial mounds just over a bit.. but thats another era..

That's right. It was featured in the recent Their Past/Your Future exhibition when it visited Campbeltown. It was a gun battery. The brickwork was completed but never fitted with guns. It's built to a standard design.

The circular brick hut enclosures are scramble huts, made so for quick reaction cover from enemy fire.

Additionally there were 30 Nissen huts built going up towards the road.
No trace of these at all.
