Though if that's right, then they've knocked some houses down to create the road on the left that goes up the hill. The rooflines of the houses in Google Street View seem to follow the same pattern as the postcard. Even has the same gap where the gardens stop after a bit.

It may be a bit confusing Kevin, but I think you are too far down the street with your street view.The picture has been taken from much further up the street, at Glen Scotia Distillery.

The building in the middle of photo with 3 floors is the last building still standing today then the entrance to high st flats begins. Was studying it earlier

Hi Tommy ! I received a PM from someone asking for the image. It's either another senior moment on my part, or I eventually posted something which included Gayfield Place: Either way, I'm confused !

Think I put my latest - and probably last post, in the wrong place - sorry.
If you go back to the very first post you will see I have added my potted history of Gayfield Place, which will probably be in the next edition of the Kintyre Antiquarian Society's magazine.
There are bound to be mistakes in it, so I am prepared for flack!

Just read through your article. Very interesting history and reminiscences. Having spent quite a bit of time around Gayfield Place in my school days it is of particular interest. I remember Joe Black's chocolate buns, as he was still making them in the 1960s, and also plain ones with sugar on the top, but he made the best pies I have ever tasted. If I remember correctly he only made the pies on a Friday, and they were ready about 10.00 am when they could be bought hot out of the oven. A wonderful delicacy of bygone days. You can't get stuff like that in the supermarkets.

At that time, a fish supper from McKinlay's chip shop across the road was 1/10d, i.e.............. 9p

When was the building demolished? Tommy you said in your article In the Kintyre Magazine that Lochend Church was brought down in 1990....it was actually 1985/86

I would guess it was in the 70s.

I know it was still standing (and occupied) in the late 60s.
