I know my Summer'll never come
I know I'll cry until my dying day has come
Let the Winter roll along
I've got nothing left but song

That brings back a lot of memories of when she used to come in to Campbeltown in the summer. Her sister ship the Duchess of Hamilton was the usual steamer on the run, but they were both regular visitors. These were the "doon the watter" days, and Campbeltown was really busy with visitors in the summer. Different times. :D

Here's how the Duchess of Hamilton ended up. A sad sight indeed. :(

When I was young, one of the highlights of an afternoon spent on Carradale Bay, was when "The Duchess " (of Hamilton ) was on her way North from Campbeltown, and we had a great time swimming and playing in the waves she created as she sailed past. It was our final "bathe " of the afternoon

Aye I remember both of the Duchesses well as I used to come home to Campbeltown every summer when I was a wee girl. We used to get on at Fairlie and sail over to Campbeltown and what a beautiful journey it was. I can remember the little gift shops on the boats and also the three piece bands that use to play it was great, stirs up my memories well and truly those were the days!!!
