Well I'm currently stranded in Texas along with Mrs Sheik and Little Miss Sheik, we were supposed to fly home on Friday, and are now re-booked for Tuesday. My guess is if we don't get out on Tuesday we'll possibly be the following Monday. So that's a LOT of additional expenses, as well as potentially having to use scarce holiday to cover being off work.

We're flying KLM, so not sure how I feel about the test flights being conducted. Being a guinea pig at 43,000 feet doesn't really appeal to me that much. Lots of people stranded here after the Easter school break, trying to get home. There are also a large number of Scots in Houston due to the oil industry. So although it's nice to have an extended holiday, I'm acutely aware that there appears to be no Plan B. What if this is still happening in 2 weeks/months time :?

Hi Bobbie, we were in San Antonio last week, we were staying out at La Cantera. Did all "the usual" things - enjoyed it.

Has anybody noticed dirty brown dusty deposits settling on cars after the rain over the last couple of days, or is it just my imagination? :?

So I have a couple of questions:

1. Is any of the damaging debris falling on the ground and getting into car engines or is it just floating in the air terrorizing airplanes (btw, there are helicopters and airplanes flying around the volcano)..

2. Are people there wearing masks to protect their lungs from these damaging and abrasive glass particles?

What, your imagination? :<>

I had my car washed Friday and yesterday it was covered in a film of what seemed to be grey matter rather than brown.

And poor you Sheik. I have quite a few friends stranded around the globe and they are concerned about a lot of things, mainly financial but I think it's worse when you have little ones with you.

Bobbie, I'm no expert but I believe your air filter on your car stops any damage. And helicopters are different - it's jet engines that are at risk. At least, that's what I believe, possibly I'm wrong . . .

And as for masks, there are always your conmen ready to profit from people's fears:

Govan, then it should be easy enough to check the air filters I suppose, but if they got that clogged it seems like it would choke the car. But then, I don't even put in my own oil, so what do i know :) But if there were glass shards that can cause severe abrasion (as they said the particles are abrasive), I would wonder about my lungs.

Screen dump from a CNN broadcast tonight.
Thanks to Tejas and her Photobucket. Paused at 0:57

Can you see what's strange about it ?

Here is the CNN news report, which frankly is full of anomalies.

Despite mounting pressure from the Airlines, Aviation Authorities, disgruntled passengers & (John Snow's son) the volcano crisis is still keeping Nick Clegg out of the headlines !
What are the odds of a heroic solution before Thursday's tv debate ?
I'm reading it will be the main item on the agenda.

Beggars belief !
