Last Socialist?

Michael Foot died today, aged 96. Is he the last of the true Socialists?

I think if he looked over his right shoulder he could just about make out socialism in the distance...

A fine orator, who came to prominence too late in life. A terrible choice at the time for the labour party as their leader, he was never going to win over the electorate. By all accounts, he was a genuine man who had the courage of his convictions; a trait sadly lacking in the politicians of today.

He was a master at taking people down a peg or two during debates in the House of Commons, and often made the Tories of the 80's look very foolish. I can remember him dissecting Tebbit and Thatcher et al. He could be cutting, witty or even down right funny, but above all I believe he was sincere. When did you hear that said about a politician.

I wonder if he had a Facebook page....
OOH did they knock down McCaigs folly.....

Totally agree with your comments Sweltered, a good genuine moral role model for the
clowns of today, but sadly he was unelectable, and it was, as you say all too late by the time he arrived.
Only one that I can think of that would come close to him is Tony Benn.

I totally agree with all that's been said and I was thinking too that Benn is the last of the last.
