Conservative MP, Sir Nicholas Winterton was on the radio today moaning at how he was "infuriated" that MPs might no longer be able to claim for first-class train travel and complaining about the "totally different type of people" in standard class.
This is a man who was caught stealing £20,000 a year on a flat he'd already paid the mortgage for and complaining about some of his privileges being threatened while others suffer real hardship seems to me to be a case where there is no understanding of the real world.
I know many people who would very much welcome the chance to travel first class but either because of the luxury or the necessity of it, not because of some assumed entitlement. They certainly would not expect the taxpayer to cough up for it.
Still, this sense of superiority has always been a Tory trait and no matter how they try to rebrand themselves, isn’t it what Cameron is really like underneath?
