I think this is probably the worst yet.

The whole thing stinks to high heaven and beyond.

Nothing, but nothing, surprises me anymore but to be perfectly honest, I'm bored now with the Press 'finding' every wee claim. We now know that a large part of them are thieving, lying scumbags. My blood pressure went sky high yesterday when I heard on the news that Kirkbride and her husband, both having to resign for outrageous fraud btw, are being awarded a Golden Handshake of over a hundred thousand as with all those departing fraudsters who are hanging on to the next election before leaving  Blueboy got it right in an earlier post when he said about someone stealing bread for his family ending up in the pokey. Our MPs end up with big fat cheques out of our pockets! Politics doesn't usually interest me much but this is scandalous. My husband, in industry, had to recently tell his employees they would have to take a temporary pay cut that was imposed on them by his American counterparts. He was unable to sleep at night - these are men with low wages, already teetering on the edge in these uncertain economic times. Yet the people we elected were bending their rubberised rules in an entirely dysfunctional Parliament. Something is rotten in the State and needs a complete purge.

Then, this week, I learned of a completely new and even more lucrative gravy train: the MEPs in the EU trough. £40million a DAY that's costing us. For the sake of my heart, I'm not even going to think about it . . .

The crime: A Labour backbencher has apologised for submitting an expenses claim for a £5 donation he made at a church service commemorating the Battle of Britain.

You all don't think that there might be a witchhunt going on? Sometimes timing is everything.

Jacqui Smith is the latest to be brought down by the claims scandal.Though she was among the first to be named she has only now finally resigned,or been pushed.
So Michael Martin was not a scapegoat, but the first of many high profile MPs to get caught, and told to resign or get sacked.

They keep saying that Gordon Brown should form a new government. There`ll soon be no-one left to form it from! That`s good really, start again from scratch.

Is it right that MPs who are charged with false accounting in respect of their expenses should appear in the dock, as the three who appeared yesterday did, or should they (as their defence lawyer put it) be "spared the ignominy"?

Surely if the "ignominy" is good enough for everyone else, then it's good enough for them.

I'm actually quite surprised there are not a lot more of them appearing in court, considering what we have heard and read about all of this. Possibly if all of those who could potentially be prosecuted were in fact prosecuted, it would make a laughing stock of our whole parliamentary system. (assuming of course that this hasn't already happened)

A wee quote

“weeds and nettles, briars and thorns, have thriven under your shadow, dissettlement and division, discontentment and dissatisfaction, together with real dangers to the whole.”

Cromwell’s speech dissolving the 1st protectoral parliament
