Jim Hacker: "Are you saying that winking at corruption is government policy?"
Sir Humphrey: "No, no, Minister. It could never be government policy. That is unthinkable. Only government practice."

So many of these MPs are now saying that they need to “rebuild the confidence and trust of their constituents” that it is becoming a bit predictable. Many of these claims are so ridiculously and obviously exploitation of a system just because it is possible to do so, that they are just taking the mickey out of the electorate, and some of these MPs should do the decent thing and stand down at the next election, if not before. They’ve already made enough of a dent in the confidence of their voters, and they've had their chance. The party's over.

Seriously, does anyone want people who make as many “mistakes” as this to represent them? (If “mistakes” they are)

On the other hand, if they are not mistakes, does anyone want their representative to be so avaricious that they put their personal greed before their honour?

I wonder if HM Revenue and Customs are taking an interest in all of this and will we be seeing some investigations. :?

I would have thought that the second homes allowance was to assist MPs to have accommodation in London, and not to assist them to become property dealers.

Doesn`t claiming for a non-existent mortgage constitute fraud? Why hasn`t this man been arrested and charged? We would have been!

Elliot Morley was interviewed on our local Yorkshire and Hunberside news yesterday and still says he didn`t know his mortgage was paid off. Presumably he wasn`t given the deeds and appropriate paperwork then? Getting the mortgage paid off was a matter of great rejoicing and relief in our house!

It's surprising how many MPs don't realise that their mortgage is paid off.

Their ineptitude and apparent lack of knowledge of their own finances is truly flabbergasting!! :<>

Yet these are the people to whom we have entrusted the management of our money!

It'll be interesting to see how many of these freeloaders are sacked by their respective parties or booted out by the electorate.

They must think we're daft Numberplease.
I discovered through my local 'paper today what my local MP received in expenses last year and was shocked at the high amount. I was even more horrified to learn that he is one of the 'good guys' who only claimed what was due to him. The amount for staffing made me choke as this is his wife! A six figure expenses claim is unacceptable to me.
Saying that, I have to look at the flip side of the coin and that is that he is a damn good local MP. I ran a Support Group for fifteen years and he helped and advised me throughout the whole period (knowing I never once voted for him seeing he is a Tory). He is well-known for the support he gives to his constituents and actually I believe he gives good value for money. It must be terribly galling for the hardworking, honest members to be tarred by the same brush as the cheating (what seems like) majority.

You do realise, don't you £3.73, that if you were a character in a dystopian novel, you'd be dead by now?
