Arseholes on the road

Postby Malky » Sat Jun 03, 2006 12:23 am

Just came up the road there from Campbeltown and a very large low-loader travelling towards the town (well maybe Vestas) at extremely high speed must have thought he owned the road coz he was taking up both lanes. Just missed us but we got home to discover that my kids who were in a car 5 minutes ahead weren't so lucky. A broken mirror and a large scratch along the side of their car. It could have been a lot worse I suppose but I am pretty pissed off that vehicles that wide are able to travel after dark without some sort of warning or escort.

Anyway, I will content myself with hoping that the price of fuel soars, the company goes to the wall and the driver's next sh1te is a hedgehog

Wow, Malky! So sorry about your kids' close call, but thank God they are okay!
Some people die at 21 but aren't buried until they are 65.

Calmed down about it now. I was just a bit upset as it was the kids.

By the way, we were at the Beachcomber restaurant in Machrihanish for a family meal. It was very nice. :)

Ally McCoist came in for a drink and that was nice too, getting to meet the "greatest living Ranger" 8) 8) :D And me not a football fan

Agree with you Pete Reek on the stupid biker statement of Martins, no comparison between the 2 drivers.

Incase you dont know anything about bike tests Martin if you come down of your high horse I will tell you a little about it.
1stly to gain a new bike licence you have to do 3 separate tests, well I did 2yrs ago. 1 the computer test in Tarbert. 2. the safety course in Oban for 8 hrs on a 125cc. doing all and every manouvre that is possible to do on a bike, including dropping it on ground and jumping to safety, when some asshole in a 4x4 or other vehicle cant stop and is about to crush you under his wheels. 3rd a minimum of 16 hours all weather driving from slow as you can go, to as fast as the speed limit allows you to go, and doing the same manouvres.

So there is a lot of training goes into gaining a bike licence nowadays and quite rightly so. Im a biker and im all for these regulation. Unfortunately you will get the odd 1 that is mad on a bike, but usually those are the bikers that know how to handle their machines, I have a mate who fits this catagory, and I wish I was half as good as he is. Mad as a hatter but knows his stuff.

Bike drivers think more about other road users and are more aware of what is going on around them simply because they have too be, for their own safety. Its a well known fact that over 98% of bikers accidents are caused by other non biking road users, so next time you make a statement like the one above. THINK-- FIRST.

Hi Martin,

Don't know what ol' fogy bikers you've run in to, but they are some of the greatest people around in my book. I'd flag down a mean-looking, hairy, fierce-scowling biker before I'd ask for assistance from a guy in a new car. They do great things for our community despite their looks and their huge growling machines.

That happens to be one of my husbands dreams when he retires. He was driving one when we met, but hasn't ridden one in 15 years. We never pass up a Harley shop on a road trip. When we were up in Pennsylvania, I bought a Harley t-shirt for Shauna. She'll probably be wearing it in Campbeltown.

Average age of the rally bikers is 35-65

Just one of the local rallys in the area: http://www.lightningcustoms.com/fourcor ... rally.html

Aye, a nice wee argument going on here. I was working up in the Oban area this week and I have never seen so many bikers in my life on the roads and never had a problem with one. Unfortunately, the roads were populated by a plethora of "rubber necks" sauntering along at 30 - 40 mph and taking in the sights. At least the bikers could pass these clowns with ease while I and many others had to sit behind them and sit and seethe. :x

The only thing that gets my back up more is the lady driver who is incapable of reversing twenty yards to a lay-by on a single track road, forcing me to reverse a quarter of a mile to let her by. :x

Ladies, the mirrors are not only for putting on the make up and I know you can't do this with your neck turned. :!:

Forgot to say...the old bikers also run safety couses in the College parking lots for bikers of all ages. They don't want unsafe riders out there, spoiling their fun! :D
