Hume, there's always something to blame: if it's not the 'biased media' (and certainly on Tuesday night Mr Dimbleby gave a much easier ride to Salmond than he did to Brown!!) then it's the nasty lot at Westminster!!!! Please accept that if it is a No then it is the will of the majority of the people and not that it is 'not valued by some' as you put it!

Shona, I completely agree with everything you said. And yes, the anti-English rhetoric has saddened me the most and has swayed the minds of many of my friends here. They see a country with a devolved Parliament, free care for the elderly, free university education (my daughter goes this week at a cost of £9k a year), free prescriptions (I had a bad fall on my face recently that resulted in infection - I had to get 6 items over 6 days last week amounting to £48), free hospital parking, etc. and they cannot understand why their people would want to risk it all - they dream of that society! They don't want the Tories any more than a Scot does!!!

Govangirl and Shona, excellent posts. These posts, perhaps, give an inkling why the Better Together campaign has much greater support amongs women voters.Common sense rather than testosterone fuelled bravado! I wish the list of advantages currently enjoyed by our scottish cousins had been given better prominence during the campaign.Govangirl listed the care for the elderly, prescription charges, free hospital parking and no higher education fees. All underwritten by the seemingly despised English taxpayer!

5:18 a.m.Watching the results as they come in and wondering how much "Fear of the un-known"had an influence on the way that the people have cast their vote?

Don't worry Scotland, David Cameron will make good on his promises, just like he did with Leveson, the environment, the NHS etc...

Just goes to show you baz was right all along. We can still use the pound after the referendum. Wonder where he is I kinda miss him. I suppose I will get over it soon though.

Severe lack of class guys. Whatever Baz's views were, he was entitled to voice them and taunting him after the event is a cheap shot.

All underwritten by the seemingly despised English taxpayer!

Last time I checked my payslip I believe I paid tax too. If the English do feel despised perhaps it's quotes like that which fuel that sentiment.

To all the positive contributors, Hume, Shona, Govangirl (to name a few) thank you for a wonderfully informative thread. It's made excellent reading.

Bertie!!!!!!!! It's great to see you back!!!!! :D :D :D

And I agree, this is not the time for cheap jibes or jokes. There are a lot of folk who woke up this morning to broken hearts and I swear on my life that I watched the breakfast news and felt for Hume and the others on here who so eloquently gave their views!!!! And also, I read comments on another Scottish forum where folk were absolutely vile to each other and never did this thread descend into that sort of nonsense.

But now even with a No vote, there are still far-reaching consequences for Scotland AND England - but let's leave that for now until another day
