HMV Vouchers

Postby Govangirl » Mon Jan 21, 2013 5:48 pm

I was intending to have a wee rant about folk left with vouchers and didn't get round to it. Well, as from tomorrow, they're accepting them!!!!! Seems thousands complained and the administrator relented - I'd get there quick before they change their minds!!!!!!!

What amazes me is that people were buying HMV gift vouchers to give as Christmas presents when it was well publicised that they were in serious financial trouble towards the end of last year!

Yep, it says:
He added: "HMV has had a difficult first half. However, the business has started to deliver a number of new initiatives which will help to maximise the seasonal sales opportunity and provide a platform for growth in 2013."

If this is translated as 'It is going to go under soon' then there are hundreds of outlets going the same way and the advice is not to buy any vouchers or accept credit notes. I can honestly say that I feared for HMV - and about 6 other retail businesses actually - but the point I was trying to make was that if HMV are still trading - as they are - then morally (and it ought to be legally) they need to accept vouchers!
I was going to post my thoughts on that previously but what stopped me was the fact that so many had lost their jobs and that was worse!

And that was another I was thinking of!!!! Yes. It's a terrible situation but there ought to be a law that protects consumers more.

I think it was on the Jeremy Vine show on Radio 2 last week they were discussing this and someone declared that there are 45( may have been 55) chain stores in serious risk of going bust this year.

I am not at all surprised.

I agree but I have to be honest and say I rely on it a lot for purchases. On the one hand, I refuse to buy from Starbucks because of the non-payment of taxes but then in an act of hypocrisy I buy loads from Amazon!! But goods are way, way cheaper than on the High Street and even if it makes things more expensive, they need to pay tax and make it a level playing field.

You could be harming the trade of a very reputable franchise, which pays all of its tax. What Starbucks does with the royalties it receives is not the fault of the franchise.

I'm not sure if it is possible to tell whether a coffee house is a franchise and what is Starbucks owned.
Should Scotland be an Independent country?

Yes, I believe Scotland is a country and should therefore govern itself.
No, Scotland is not a country it is simply part of the UK and should therefore be governed from London.
