Mr Fred Goodwin

Postby EMDEE » Wed Feb 01, 2012 2:55 pm

How many other recipients of titles and awards have gone on to blot their copybooks in the succeeding years?

Whilst Fred Goodwin may have become a reviled figure and an easy target for the salving of the conscience of the establishment in general for having given him a knighthood in the first place, it certainly does appear that he has been made into a scapegoat when one considers:

1. How often and for what reasons this action is taken.

2. How many others were involved in the debacle that led to the collapse of so many financial institutions, and are equally culpable?

Obviously he is the highest profile of the bunch, and therefore is a good target, as the public roughly know who he is and what he did. Going for him therefore makes the public think that something has been done about it, but it is nothing but pure tokenism.

The whole Awards system need seriously looked at and reviewed and those candidates at the top of the Business sector need to be considered with great care. (if the system should even be retained in its current form)

The Awards system is so meaningless that he will probably not even miss it.

I'm sure his £342,500 per year pension will soften the blow.Given the choice I know which one I would be happy to have.

I'm sure he can buy himself a lot of consolation with that.

The honours system became meaningless over a decade ago when it became the norm for gongs to be given out like confetti to 'people of the moment' for the sake of gaining political brownie points. They became so watered down that they're now on a par with the Teen Awards and the 'North Western Area Brush Salesman of the Year awards'.

Crowth.I take exception to you having a go at the North Western Brush salesman of the year award.Your comment really made me bristle. My Grandad won this award four years running. He swept the board, and wiped the floor with the opposition. :D

Just finished reading of another possible big payout for failure.

"A fresh row over ‘rewards for failure’ could be brewing after it emerged Lloyds Banking group is preparing to give its investment banking chief a £4.8million 'golden goodbye'.
The farewell package for Truett Tate, who will step down from the state-controlled bank this month, could be five times higher than the bonus waived by Stephen Hester at Royal Bank of Scotland earlier this week."
