Search and Rescue and R.N.L.I.

Postby LANDROVER ROGER » Wed Feb 09, 2011 9:50 am

I feel that the fact that The R.N.LI. is still run on a charitable basis is utterly deplorable. Now that the running of the Search and Rescue operations is facing an un-certain future,is it feasible to suggest that Lottery Funding could be used?Surely these two emergency organisations are indeed a "deserving cause".

Is it not the case that the RNLI has a certain independence and autonomy in the running of their operation that they would not have if they received public money? Is this not the reason why they have consistently raised their own funds?

Interesting point that.I have just read that approximately 60% of R.N.L.I.funds are via legacies and their total independence generates enormous respect and therefore donations.Due to an ageing population these legacies will eventually dwindle so I would suggest that other ways of funding are going to be necessary.

My point is that as "old money'"dwindles, there will not be so many donations from legacies as previously.
