Trapped Miners

Poor guys, after the bare essentials are sent down the tube - I wonder - what would others send down to alleviate the psychological impact. Alcohol ? mmm - then again.

Ha ha, at least they still have a sense of humour,Daily Record today said when the made contact with the men the 1st question asked was: How are Celtic doing in Europe. Not sure if this is true, or just another one of the Daily Rangers newspapers smug remarks.

700mts x 70cm = a lot of earth. Ironic really how we travel from one work-in to another. The removal of the rubble is, I would hazard a guess - a good thing in that it keeps them occupied. Why don't the trapped miners start to dig upwards ?
I would think that the last couple of guys out the mine would be true leaders. I think that the authorities called it wrong when refusing to send cigarettes, after all if they have a couple of miles of tunnel. I hear one of them has some medical training - however a serious illness down there doesn't bear thinking about. I would be demanding beer hash and fags :D

Possibility of cave-in?Would you start digging upwards without knowing the stability of the material that you are digging?

Well at the end of the day that's what they are good at - given the circumstances and regardless of the stability - they are going to dig down - is there any difference between digging upwards than downwards.

If you dig or drill down you remove the spoil. If you dig up it drops on to you.
